MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan advanced 0.4%, while Nikkei slid 0.3% on concerns about rising virus infections in Tokyo.
Market experts said that investors rely on US policymakers for more stimulus as the world’s largest economy struggles to control the pandemic. Congress to begin discussing such packages next week, prompting closings in several states to control the spread of the virus.
