The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reportedly discussing the proposals for additional booster shots of the coronavirus vaccines.
The FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee reportedly plans to hold a meeting on September 17 to discuss the matter.
The Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine, which recently was the first to obtain the FDA’s full approval, has submitted an application for a third dose of the vaccine, following the regular two shots, in what is now commonly known as a booster shot. This option has resurfaced due to the spread of the coronavirus Delta variant with mixed results of efficacy by the current vaccines.
Moderna has also submitted its application for a booster shot.
The U.S. government plans to make booster shots available starting September 20.
