Auto Sales in China Rose 75% in March

Car sales in China rose in March, posting gains for the twelfth month in a row, as the world’s largest auto market leads the sector’s recovery from the Corona pandemic.

Data from the China Automobile Manufacturers Association revealed that sales reached 2.53 million cars in March, up 74.9% year-on-year.

Sales of new energy vehicles, including battery-powered electric vehicles, gasoline-electric hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, increased 239% in March to 220,000 units.

New energy vehicle manufacturers such as domestic companies Nio and Xpeng, as well as foreign groups such as Tesla, are expanding manufacturing capabilities in China as they promote less polluting vehicles to cut air pollution.

Another Chinese auto entity, the China Passenger Car Federation, said Friday (April 9th) that Tesla sold 35,478 cars manufactured in China in March.
