Data released by Office for National Statistics showed on Friday that retail sales in Britain increased by 13.9% in June, compared to 12.3% in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Analysts had expected that retail sales in the United Kingdom would rise by about 8.3% in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pound is currently trading at the level of 1.2736, down 0.04% against the US dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>Jonathan Athow, ONS deputy national statistician, told the BBC that there had been “some really big changes under the surface” of the retail landscape since lockdown began.
“Food shops continue to do quite well, as we’re eating at home more,” he said.
“But the real growth has been in online sales. Online sales continue to go from strength to strength.
