U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday unveiled TrumpRx.gov<\/strong>, a new website aimed at giving Americans access to discounted prescription medicines, marking a central pillar of his renewed push to lower drug prices in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The launch was announced during a White House event attended by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and National Design Studio Director and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPeople are going to save a lot of money and be healthy,\u201d Trump said during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The initiative is underpinned by agreements between the Trump administration and 16 of the world\u2019s largest pharmaceutical companies, which have agreed to so-called \u201cmost-favored nation\u201d pricing arrangements. Under these deals, drugmakers will lower prices for Americans in exchange for exemptions from certain U.S. tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The agreements apply to the government\u2019s Medicaid program and, through TrumpRx, to consumers paying out of pocket without insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the most prominent participants are Eli Lilly<\/strong> and Novo Nordisk<\/strong>, which agreed to significantly cut prices on popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs. According to the administration, average monthly prices for Americans would fall to between $149 and $350<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly have increasingly focused on direct-to-consumer sales, which the companies say now account for more than 10% of total revenue. Novo\u2019s Wegovy pill, launched last month, is currently sold exclusively through direct channels while insurers finalize coverage decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019re continuing to make it easier for people to access our authentic, FDA-approved medicines by expanding availability through multiple, convenient options,\u201d said Chris Pernie, Novo Nordisk\u2019s associate vice president for U.S. public affairs. According to STAT News, the platform is powered by prescription savings site GoodRx<\/strong>. TrumpRx itself will not sell medicines directly, but instead redirect consumers to third-party sites where the drugs can be purchased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other pharmaceutical companies signing on to the initiative include Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck, and GSK<\/strong>. Pfizer said it launched its TrumpRx program on Thursday and will offer more than 30 medicines at discounted prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to obesity and diabetes drugs, medicines listed for availability include Merck\u2019s Januvia<\/strong>, Sanofi\u2019s blood thinner Plavix<\/strong>, GSK\u2019s asthma inhaler Advair Diskus 500\/50<\/strong>, Amgen\u2019s cholesterol drug Repatha<\/strong>, and Gilead\u2019s hepatitis C treatment Epclusa<\/strong>. Fertility medications such as EMD Serono\u2019s Gonal-F<\/strong> and Merck\u2019s Cetrotide<\/strong> are also included, the White House said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite the fanfare, analysts cautioned that the actual savings for many consumers remain uncertain.
