However, markets largely expect the ECB to <strong>hold rates through 2026<\/strong>, meaning the data is unlikely to alter the outlook significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Buybacks Poised to Drive European Momentum in 2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond monetary policy, analysts at <strong>Barclays<\/strong> see substantial potential for renewed momentum in European equities next year, driven by <strong>aggressive corporate share repurchases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key findings from Barclays\u2019 latest note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>European companies repurchased <strong>\u20ac19.3 billion<\/strong> in shares in <strong>November 2025<\/strong> \u2014 near the highest monthly level since 2017<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buybacks represented <strong>2.3%<\/strong> of total European equity trading volume<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy and financial firms accounted for more than <strong>2.5%<\/strong> of volume via buybacks alone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Q4 execution levels are running <strong>above historical averages<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A major tailwind is the <strong>large unexecuted capacity<\/strong> still available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Roughly <strong>70%<\/strong> of 2026 buyback programs remain outstanding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barclays\u2019 models project about <strong>\u20ac50 billion<\/strong> in new buyback announcements in Q1 2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The bank expects <strong>8% earnings-per-share growth<\/strong> for European equities in 2026, with <strong>automakers, telecoms, and energy companies<\/strong> offering the strongest <strong>free cash flow yields<\/strong> heading into the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>European equities traded without clear momentum on Tuesday, with investors cautious ahead of major central bank decisions scheduled for the final month of the year.
